Napanee wasn't even a dot on Ontario, Canada's map until 2002, When 17 year old Avril Lavigne broke out from the 5000 population town and became one of pop music's most influential artists.At age 13, Avril wrote the song that would catapult her to stardom, yet a few years had to pass before the award winning Complicated took the pop world by storm. At 15 she flew to New York to sing for Antonio "LA" Reid, who heads Arista Records. With lyrics inspired by her life from Napanee to New York, Avril released her debut album, Let Go in June of 2002.

Lavigne bursted onto the pop music scene with Complicated. Then contiuned belting out hit singles with Sk8er Boi, I'm With YouLosing Grip. Let Go went four times platinum and sold nearly 17 million copies world wide. Avril also racked up four of the prized Canadian Juno Awards. and
In January of 2004, Avril began dating Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whilbley. Being signed to the same management company, the pair had known each other for a while. The two were quicky nicknamed the Canadian rock couple. The same year Avril started writing and recording for her sophomore album. Teaming up with prducer Butch Walker and Don Gilmore Avril kept to her real life lyrics. Along with Walker and Gilmore, fellow bandmates Evan Taubenfeld and Matt Braun took part in writing and recording. Under My Skin was on May 24, 2004, starting with the single Don't Tell Me, which was co-written by Taubenfeld. Following the the lead single was My Happy Ending, Nobody's Home, He Wasn't, and Fall To Pieces. Adding to her Juno collection, Lavigne took home three of her five nominations in 2004. Lavigne and Taubenfeld promoted the new songs on an acoustic mall tour. After promo, the world wide Bones Tour went through most of 2005. But probably the most memorable event for Avril in 2005 was getting engaged to Whibley during a vacation in Venice, Italy.

In 2006 the maturing Lavigne, represented Canada during the Winter Olympics in Torino Italy, where she performed the song Who Knows off of Under My Skin.
After the success of Under My Skin, Avril decided to take a year off. At the young age of 21, she married Deryck July 15, 2006.
After their honeymoon, Avril began work on her third album. Going into the studio Avril had the idea that this would be the best record she had ever made,The name stuck. And the third installment of Avril Lavigne was named The Best Damn Thing. Producers for The Best Damn Thing include, Dr. Luke, Butch Walker, Rob Cavallo and husband Deryck Whilbley. She also, once again, collaborated with long time friend Taubenfeld. Lavignes influence resonates throughout the album.Songs range from pop heavy Girlfriend, to heavenly ballads like When You're Gone and Innocence. Throw in punk-vibe I Can Do Better (which features Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker) and you have the best damn album. And whats the best damn album without the best damn tour? After promoting for much of 2007, Avril took off on her second world tour in 2008.

Lavigne has not only impacted the world though her music but her generosity. She has been involved in a number of charities including War Child Canada, ALDO YouthAIDS, Amnesty International, Make-a-Wish. And was recently awarded the Certificate of Honor at a Bejing press conference, to commemorate her work with Tsunami victims
Recently in 2008 Lavigne presented her own original clothing line to the world, Abbey Dawn. Splattered with punk influenced graphics and lyrics graffiti, the jeans, shorts, skirts and shirts, Lavigne has created is just the look for girls with and edge. To go along with the clothes, Lavigne used her magic once again to cook up a fragrance, called Black Star. With hints of pink hibiscus, black plum and dark chocolate kissing the fabric of your favorite Abbey Dawn t-shirt what else do you need?
